He died this day in 1954 stepping on a landmine in Vietnam at the age of 41. That day was also a tuesday.

• We recently watched "We Were Soldiers" and I was taken with the camera carried into that battle by the journalist. I recall as a young child seeing photos nearly everyday on the front page of the Dayton Daily News of soldiers in battle and never gave any thought as to how they were captured. Amazing bravery documented on film. The camera was lost at times and retrieved in tact. Too bad the men weren't as resilient, but life is fleeting. Sad.
